Macaroons all the way !!!

Macaroons are the French confectionery items made of cookie and filling. The filling or frosting is sandwiched between two flavoured cookies. I first got to know about them through Masterchef Australia where the contestants had to rebuild Adriano Zumbo's Macaroon tower. Was completely fascinated by the enormous structure created by him.

It actually took me a while to get my teeth over the Macaroons. In this vacation we went to Palladium Mall to have LE 15 Macaroons. It is owned by Pooja Bhingra. LE 15 PATISSERIE is a French style chocolate and pastry shop..
The items there are a bit expensive like the little chocolate tart is of Rs. 95 and a Macaroon will cost you Rs. 60 per piece. But anyways it is totally worth it !!! When i had the first bite I was like YUMMMM... Unlike its hard, crispy appearance, it is really light, delicate and mouth-melting with a little crisp at the top.
They had many flavours, we had PASSION FRUIT and COFFEE MACAROON..
I am so happy we had it. It was a delightful experience. It has inspired me to make my own Macaroon and I am gonna do it real soon...

LE 15 has a huge variety of cup cakes as well which look very cute and tempting.

Pretty much everyone who loves cooking loves Nigella Lawson. She is often regarded as “THE DOMESTIC GODDESS”. I myself am a huge fan of her and her recipes. Everything she cooks looks simply scrumptious!!
I was going through her site when I stumbled upon her lemon pudding recipe. They looked absolutely pretty. So I decided to make them. Her version included lemon curd on the top. But I used melted chocolate instead.

   ·         Add lemon juice and zest and mix it again
   ·         Grease the ramekins with butter
   ·         Add baking powder to the mixture
   ·         Pour the batter in the ramekins
   ·         Bake them in preheated microwave for 15mins at 180C
   ·         Melt the chocolate in double boiler and pour it ovr the puddings while serving
·        ·    You can decorate the pudding however you want. Get creative!!
It’s a pretty simple thing to make and is a perfect companion for evening tea

It's PIZZA BY THE BAY

Doing Articleship at a CA's Office, I always have to visit Income Tax Office at Charni Road and Churchgate. At one such visit i saw “PIZZA BY THE BAY” which is just across Marine Drive facing the Arabian Sea. I fell in love with the place at the first sight and determined to visit this place with Munna.

The day after Munna's exam ended, we decided to have lunch there.
As soon as we entered the restaurant, we immediately had smiles on our face. Absolutely serene and tranquil place. It had an amazing view of the sea and of the Marine Drive. As the climate was a bit hot we decided to sit inside in A/c hall.

The decor is simple yet elegant. The restaurant is groomed in white with finishes of black long wooden tables.

The waiters taking order were inattentive, but the food was served to us quiet fast. The menu is very tempting- Pizza's of different types, Pasta's, exquisite appetizers and array of Mocktails and Cocktails.

We had ordered Spicy Chicken Melt, BBQ stuffed Pizza and Coolers. We thoroughly enjoyed the meal. It was damn yummy and tasty. The Pizza was stomach filling. They have lunch buffet too which all seemed to enjoy except for a fuzzy eaters sitting at the table besides us. They even asked for feedback form to write down complaints. It was seriously surprising because the food was very great. I just can't understand people at times!!!

Anyways this place is amazing and a must visit!!! It’s a bit on the expensive side, though one can loosen up their pockets once a while.

Price for 2 - Rs. 1000-1200

MUST TRY: - Stuffed Crust Pizza, Alfredo, Spicy Chicken Melt.

KANDA BHAJJIS

The winds are blowing hard. The monsoon has just begun. It’s time to take out umbrellas and raincoats. It’s time to soak in rain. To sail your paper boats. To wear gum boots and splash water.  And it is also time for KANDA (onion) BHAJJIS. Rainfall and Kanda Bhajji are the dynamic duo. Nothing can be better than munching the hot bhajjiyas by your window and watching the rains pour.
Kanda Bhajji is a pretty easy thing to make and it doesn’t even take a lot of time. Not only in rainy season but they can be eaten as a snack anytime or as accompaniment with lunch and dinner.
INGREDIENTS:
·         4 thinly chopped –long cut large onions
·         1 tsp red chili powder
·         Salt to taste
·         1 cup gram flour(besan)
·          Cumin seeds (pinch)
·         Handful of finely chopped coriander leaves
·         Oil to deep fry
PROCEDURE:
·         Take chopped onions in a bowl. Add salt, red chili powder, cumin seeds, coriander leaves to the onions and mix well.
·         Add gram flour and mix again.
·         Heat oil in a pan.
·         Drop lumps of batter in hot oil and deep fry.
·         Remove them when golden brown.
·         Put them on tissue paper to absorb excess oil.
·         SERVE HOT!!!ENJOY!!!
TIP:  Avoid adding water to the batter because it prevents bhajjis from being crispy.

Quoted Food

I read that Marco Pierre White had the quote” TO KNOW HOW TO EAT WELL, ONE MUST FIRST KNOW HOW TO WAIT.” on the cover of the dessert menu at his restaurant. This provoked me to find other quote related to food. So I goggled the topic and went through many pages full of quotes.
Below are my favorite ones:
Ø  Fat is the vehicle for the flavor to travel on. –Reese (Malcom in the Middle)
Ø  Food has replaced sex in my life, now I can’t even get into my own pants.
Ø  Fish sauce… for when you want that flavor of cat food and athletic sock…in a good way. –Alton Brown
Ø  Give me liberty or…OOooo….A jelly donut! –Homer Simpson
Ø  The devil has put a penalty on all things we enjoy in life. Either we suffer in health or we suffer in soul or we get fat. –Albert Einstein
Ø  Eating is really one of your indoor sports. You play 3 times a day, and its well worthwhile to make the game as pleasant as possible. –Dorothy Draper
Ø  A tavalo non si invecchia.—At the table no one ever grows old. (Italian proverb)
Ø  A buen hambre no falta salsa. –Hunger is the best sauce. (Spanish proverb)

One cannot eat breakfast all day,
Nor is it the act of a sinner,
When breakfast is taken away,
To turn his attention to dinner.
--WS Gilbert(Trial by Jury)

Would be glad to read more good quotes if you have any!!! JJJ

"Nukkad" ka TATUS NOOK

I am using the word “NUKKAD” because TATUS NOOK is really a few steps away from my house at the corner of the street. It is a very popular local restaurant. I can bet everyone in Goregaon knows about it.
Started as a CHINESE restaurant it has now included THAI cuisine to the menu. With flourishing business and cause of its local fame, it has opened one more branch in Goregaon (w) itself close to M.G ROAD.
With the first look of the restaurant you wouldn’t like it much because they got plastic chairs and tables seating in open air. But they also have got air-conditioned hall with comfortable sofa and good chair seating. The A\c hall also has a small mocktail bar.  The walls are decorated with not so original Chinese and Buddhist items.
They serve extremely delicious INDO-CHINESE FOOD and is my personal favorite place to eat when I am in no mood to eat homemade food or if there is sea-food at home (as I don’t like sea food).  The waiters are very friendly and the service is pretty fast. The home delivery is not as quick.
The rates are very reasonable and the food is very tasty. Though it’s not a very fancy place but it’s a place where you can go and eat when you are not in a mood of cooking or eating homemade food.

COST OF EATING FOR 2 PERSONS: - 300 – 350/-
MUST TRY:
SOUPS: MANCHOW, CHICKEN CLEAR SOUP.
GRAVY: SCHEZWAN CHICKEN, HOT GARLIC.
STARTERS: PANNER FINGERS, THAI BARBEQUE CHICKEN, BLACK CHICKEN.

Barbeque Nations, Khar (W).

It was 12th of March. The date has been lucky 4 us and it didn’t upset us this time as well. It was a great day and Munna and I decided to celebrate. We decided to go to Candies Bandra. But it was a Monday and sadly Candies was closed. We thought the day was so good and why is it going the other way. And suddenly as we were a bit upset, in came an idea and we decided to go to BARBEQUE NATIONS. Started our GPS and in a few minutes reached  BARBEQUE NATIONS . It looked "ok" from outside; but we were quite excited to see what’s in. It had valet parking and the security guard took care of the parking. As we entered in the receptionist helped us with the seat and yeahh the interiors were calm and quiet and kinda romantic… Hehe... The table itself had barbeque attached in the centre and it was something unique for us. We were very happy that we were trying something new. We ordered a non- veg buffet and the starters were served.
Starters were kept on the barbeque to grill. The starters consisted of CHICKEN TIKKA , FISH, MUTTON, PRAWNS AND ALSO VEG STARTERS. Their daily menu consists of 5 veg and 5 non veg starters with 1 veg and non-veg soup and all of them were very yummyyyy!!!
After having loads of starters we went for the main course which we had to "self serve" it which was arranged separately. We got up from our seats and went to the buffet section. There were plenty of variety of delicacies to choose from.. We were quite confused and thought of tasting each item. The main course had 4 non-veg, 6 veg dishes with roti & naan, 3 non veg and 5 veg salads. The non veg main course consisted of chicken, mutton, prawns and crab curries which were mouth watering.
We finally were done with the main course and just about kept a very small space in our tummies to get the desserts in...Quickly went to the desserts section and wow !! We had 7 desserts at our disposal..It had Indian sweets as GULAB JAMUN, RASGULLA AND OTHERS LIKE VANILLA ICE-CREAM WITH CHOCOLATE DIP, MOUSSE  etc...They were all delicious.
We were finally done with the food and OMG we overate.....but the hotel had just done everything right to make us happy...it was a yummm time !!!

Cost of buffet per head is about 600-650 Rs.
And they charge only 4.5% as service tax.
Wow factor: variety in menu, good ambience but the barbeque on the table steals it all..!!

Candies, Bandra (W).

Lost in the maze of streets of Bandra and cause of the misguidance of the people we wern't able to find Candies, Pali Hill in the 1st attempt. But the next time we used GPS and successfully reached the place (wonder why didn't we do it the previous time).
Anyways this place is hardly visible from outside, with a little orange coloured board hanging outside with the name "Candies" on it. With a quick security check we entered the place which proudly displays its certification by the worlds famous food critic "Matt Prestton".
We stood in the line and took food items and headed upstaris. As we climbed the stairs we discover a whole new height of awesomeness at every level.
We took our seats at the Sky Garden level and enjoyed the meal with chit chatting and gossiping. Had simply great time there.

ITS A PERFECT PLACE FOR A "PERFECT BUDDY DATE" !!

CANDIES is a famous fast food cafe of Bandra. Got outlets at Pali Mala Road, Bandra reclamation and next to  Learners Academy School,Pali hill.

We would recommend to visit the one near D'Monte Park,Pali Mala Road,Bandra (west) b'coz it's a perfect hang out place. It has got 3 levels with the uppermost deck full of love birdies.

Though the service is slow the food is worth the wait.

CANDIES has got a vivid array of delicious, mouth watering food. From North Indian cuisine to Sushi one can find "n" number of delicacies here. Though the rates have increased it still is cheaper compared to many other places.(COST PER HEAD WILL RANGE FROM Rs. 200-300/-)

This place offers  a wide range of European desserts with a speciality of "ANGRY BIRD" pastry. One can find awe-sum Cheescakes, Fruit Tart and many finger food desserts.

The Decor is remarkable with artwork and mosaics of famous people like BOB MARLEY, MJ, STEVE JOBS adorning the walls. One can choose to sit indoor sitting hall or open-air ones. This is a place Where you can sit for hours chatting or doing work along with a good meal.
